Scholarship Opportunities

Please take advantage of the many scholarship opportunities available through the AFP Scholarship Program. Our scholarship categories include:
If you have questions, please contact Lori Avery, Scholarship Chair at lori@patsplacecac.org. Scholarships provide a way for AFP Charlotte to give back to those in the development and fundraising field and allow individuals to seek additional education through membership and conference opportunities. It is a wonderful benefit!

"It was truly an amazing opportunity to join colleagues from Charlotte and across the state to spend a day focused on leadership in the philanthropic space. This is such a timely and important topic and the conference did an amazing job of interweaving leadership into each of the sessions with practical tactics to take back and implement at the office. I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to participate. "
Caitlin Donley, 2018 Scholarship Recipient

Mentoring Program

So, you're not sure if you want to be a mentor...

What do you do when you're new to development with only 1 or 2 years experience? Sure, you can ask a co-worker for help, but sometimes that's just not possible or it makes you feel uncomfortable.

That's where a mentor can assist. As a former mentor myself, I know how rewarding it can be to guide and coach another development professional who is anxious to learn, but not sure where to turn. At our monthly meetings, my mentee and I would discuss everything from how to deal with office politics to how to remain motivated when donors won't return your call. We shared laughter and struggles and always ended our evening with a hug knowing we had each made a new friend.

That's what this experience is all about; guiding, coaching, laughing and encouraging a new development professional to keep at it! The world of nonprofit is worth every minute of your hard work.

Want to know more about becoming a mentor? Feel like you need a little extra guidance as a mentee? Contact Jane Weaver at jweaver@habitatcharlotte.org or 401-714-8182 for more information.
